VC
Founded in 2019 in the Netherlands by seven TU Delft students Marsha Goei, Marco van der Woude, Thomas Oomens, Thomas van der Pas, Daan Alkemade, Philip van den Heuvel, and Joris van Doorninck.
The app sends users a curated handful of profiles each day at 7 PM, and if both parties match, Breeze books the date at a partnered venue. Users pay €7.50 per date (which includes a drink), accounts are frozen for repeated cancellations, and no-shows get banned – driving an under-1% no-show rate and a 4.5 average date rating.
Since launch the platform has organised 300,000+ dates, expanding from the Netherlands to Belgium, Germany, the UK, France, and (starting 2025) the US with New York City.
“One thing that made us trust Gilion was that they were pragmatic and on point. They looked the revenue and marketing data to see that our unit economics made sense. It’s very frustrating when banks don’t understand a great business and just focus on strict guidelines. But Gilion understands this game.”
